Commissions Tamburo - Upswing

Aerial and Pyrotechnics Spectacular

Upswing were commissioned by Brent Council to deliver a large scale spectacular event to celebrate the official opening of the Ultra-modern Civic Centre.  The brief for the performance was to produce a celebratory event to showcase the potential of the new building, responded to the building’s sustainability and green credentials, celebrate Brent’s cultural diversity and above all create a spectacle that would engage and inspire people young and old.

We worked closely with the Arts and Events team to design a spectacular show of aerial acrobatics, fire dance, breathtaking display of pyrotechnics and an emotive soundtrack using the poetry of 21 young ambassadors, one for each of Brent’s wards.  In the lead up to the performance we trained 12 physical performers from Brent and surrounding areas in stilt walking to open the performance with a choreographed display.  Upswing worked with teams across the council to meet the high levels of heath and safety to perform aerial and pyrotechnics on this extraordinary building, delivering a beautiful event that exceeded the expectations of all.

The Upswing performance was amazing, it actually brought tears to our eyes. We have never had a performance like that in Brent before so it was a real achievement for me and the team.   Upswing were such a lovely company to work with and put so much into the performance. The  soundtrack they commissioned included the voices from young people in Brent and also interweaved live music into the performance.
