What Happens In The Winter
In collaboration with Arc Stockton, and in association with The Albany, Deptford
Using the lives of physical performers as inspiration, Upswing asks what happens as you get older, when your profession requires super human strength and skills, but ageing has gradually taken away the tools of your trade?
‘What happens in the winter’ is an entertaining and arresting mix of aerial, theatre and dance that treads a humorous path through the minds and bodies of two women who still want to fly.
Created by aerial director Vicki Amedume, theatre director Gemma Fairlie and writer Sonia Hughes.
‘What happens in the winter’ has be in development throughout 2012 with the support of the Arc, Stockton and The Albany, Deptford.
Set and costume design Mika Handley

We were able to extend this activity to deliver workshops for people over 55. We had a very enthusiastic response from participants:
“What I loved about the day was that feeling of being Childlike – I needed to play and it gave me a sense of peace” (Siobhan, in her 50s).
“I thoroughly enjoyed today’s workshop, it made me attempt things I haven’t tried for about twenty five years! ” (Mavis, in her 80s)
