Vicki Amedume – Artistic Director
Since 1997, Vicki has performed and created aerial and circus based work that has been performed in the UK and worldwide. She has worked across all spheres of circus from traditional touring tented circuses to large-scale outdoor spaces and intimate touring indoor theatre.
She is Visiting Artist at Rose Bruford College, Visiting Lecturer in Circus at Bucks University, Guest Lecturer and Guest Trainer at Circus Space and Visiting Trainer at The Hangar Arts Trust.
She trained at Live and Direct, Birkbeck College, Circus Sarasota, Centre National des Arts du Cirque (CNAC, France), Leeds University and Circus Space.
Camille Bensoussan – Executive Director
Camille joined Upswing as Producing Manager in 2012 and was appointed Executive Director in Spring 2014. Camille has been working in Outdoor Arts and Circus for the last fifteen years, first as a performer and then as an agent, event organiser, project manager and producer. She has a masters degree in Enterprise Management for the Creative Arts and is passionate about the development of contemporary Circus and Outdoor Arts in the UK.
Krista Vuori – Creative Associate
Krista trained as a dancer at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and gained her MA in Dance Theatre at Trinity Laban.
She is a Creative Practitioner for Frantic Assembly Theatre Company and also works on independent projects. Her expertise lies in movement; performing, directing and devising dance and physical theatre. Her previous creative projects have been with Hijinx Theatre Company, The Old Vic New Voices and Tramway Theatre Arts Group. As a performer she has worked with Yolande Snaith, Luca Silvestrini , ThickSkin Theatre Company, MotionManual, The Famous and numerous others.
Commercial work includes The UEFA Champions league Final at Wembley Stadium, The 35th Laurence Olivier Awards at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and the Paralympics Opening Ceremony.
Jessica Andrade – Education Associate
Since 2011 Jessica has trained with Upswing as part of the Step Up programme and has continued her training with us. After vigorous training and mentoring from the company, she lead the Fit For Flight programme. She then became a resident teacher with our partners at Wac Arts and White Hart studios.
Jessica trained at East 15 Acting school on the physical theatre course, Inflight at Wac Arts, Gravity Circus Centre, ACDC member of National Centre for Circus Arts.
Credits include Tangled Feet with performances at Greenwich and Docklands festival, Brighton Festival and Watford Imagine festival. She has trained and performed with Funk Da Cirque at Camden Roundhouse Circus Fest, Olympics Opening Ceremony and travelled with the company to Zigzujg festival Malta and Circus Staad Rotterdam.
Jessica is now working on her own solo aerial theatre show on the theme of Identity and British Asian culture through the use of circus and comedy.
Winston Pyke – Education Associate
Winston Pyke is an Actor who has been dancing for 5 years, professionally for 4 years. Winston first encountered aerial work with Upswing and has been developing his skills as an aerial assisted dancer for the past three years. Winston’s specialisation in harness work has been utilised in performance and as a trainer with Upswing and has taken him from Edinburgh Fringe Festival to flying as part of the Grand opening of Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. Winston is a B-boy at heart and Hip Hop is his soundtrack. He feels privileged to be able to dance for a living and to inspire the next generation through training and performance.
Charline Kandilian – Education Associate
Charline Kandilian has Circus in her blood. Her father headed a circus school in France and encouraged her to explore this art form from when she took her first steps! Her passion for training, creating and performing takes its routes from these early experiences. After finishing school, she completed a Master’s degree in Training in Grenoble (specialising in Physical preparation, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries) while working as a circus teacher for 5 years in France. She then came to the UK where she completed the Foundation Degree at the National centre for circus arts (formerly Circus Space) in London. Charline is a strong and unique aerialist. She now performs at a high level with creative aerial equipment, creating cheerful and interactive pieces integrating a character and a story. Charline has been teaching for the past 2 years in London. She became part of the Upswing team in 2014.
Graeme Clint – Rigging Associate
Graeme is an accomplished performance artist who has worked as a Dancer, Circus Performer, Aerialist, Performer/Rigger, Choreographer and Teacher for over 15 years. Graeme completed the degree course in Dance Performance at Middlesex University, during which time he worked with the highly acclaimed dancer/choreographer Christopher Bannerman. He then completed an intensive year of circus training at Circus Space, after which he performed as a ‘Ninja’ aerialist in ‘The Millennium Dome’ Opening Ceremony. To then go on to perform as a bungee stilt aerialist and as a lead role understudy as ‘Skyboy’ in the Millennium Dome show “OVO”. Graeme works regularly for Upswing and other circus companies on aerial performances as a harness based aerialist and performer/rigger.
